The second landfall was about 30 miles North of me he in Chas SC. We got low Cat 1 winds and a pile of rain. Prayers for all the Florida people impacted.

The eye passed over Cayo Costa Island where we have a fishing shack. We lost some metal siding, some eave trim, two sections of screen and blew the front door out of the openings - and didn’t break the glass…!
We will be ready for the mid-October 2023 Southwest Florida CSC Gathering just in time for stone crab season!

Still standing! Wife just asked me yesterday if I heard any updates.

Ron, we stiffened everything in the early 2000’s with some structural steel and then almost immediately took a direct hit from Hurricane Charlie. The eye of Ian passed over the island so the storm surge was South of us. We had very little water but we did get some “tornadic” winds produced by the eye which “scaled” some of my rusty corrugated siding off like it was a mangrove snapper! I will need to go to the House of Blues in Orlando to steal some replacement siding!

I assumed the house was toast. Delighted to see it made it through! You guys build tough.

The S. Fla. Building codes are some of the tuffest in the country. Calf. With there earth quakes are more stringent. If they do follow the codes it does make for a strong building . I know we all hate the inspectors but knowing at least a 1/2 dozen of them I’ve heard stores of them having to do up to 40 inspections in a day, no way humanly possible

Conner, I rebuilt it like there might be a Hurricane coming someday. Lots of light gauge galvanized structural steel embedded in the framing.

Our liittle island was in the 10 o'clock position of the eyewall for 6+ hours and had winds over 148 and a gust over 200.


All in all the house survived with no structural damage. Soffits blew out on the north side and the bedroom ceiling collapsed. Just need to dry out and and do a little remolding. Could have been a lot worse.

"Last Time" rode the storm out in Moesly fashion and laughed out loud.
