Re: seacast transom

I looked into plywood and Nida-core materials and decided on Nida-Core pourable. I had a gallon sent and did some lamination testing and strength testing and found it to be fine for what I'm using...

Re: Replacing Transom

Not to hi-jack Hermit's post, but I'm also watching this as I'm also replacing a transom from outside and started with a mess for a core. Outer skin was cut back with a cicular saw and peeled off...

Re: 23 savage diesel.

Apple to orange comparison, but I run many boats and one has a 210 Cummins in a Nordic Tug 32 and it will run 17 knots and burn roughly 13 GPH, but that's a 15,000lb boat. I would expect the...

Re: Non-Slip cockpit floor paint

I did a number of test panels and used the salt shaker method.

Re: Non-Slip cockpit floor paint

Like Chuck I opted for Awlgrip with Griptex and it's easy on bare feet, but provides plenty of grip when wet.

Two seasons with kids, sand, equipment and a dog and it still looks great.

Re: Here We Go Again

Chuck - looking very nice. Being able to spray indoors must feel much better.

Re: transom height, to change or not to change?

Depending on the jackplate complecity the price will vary. Here is a CMC C-channel "jack plate" that allows 5" of lift to fit a 30" motor on a 25" transom and it's sub $200. This is for one season...

Re: Gelcoat or Awlgrip?

For the use my boat will see I preferred the Awlgrip with Griptex spinkled between sprayed coats. So far no complaints.

Re: Here We Go Again

Chuck - nice to see you back on the project, it was quiet there for a while. Something caught my eye on the tank inspection - hmmm, looks like an endoscope to me, Olympus maybe? They are wonderful...

Re: Gel-Coat

I sprayed my hull from a pressure pot with Gelcoat, bit not a HVLP and I can find the tip size if needed. Just make sure you have the gun empty and cleaned before it kicks.

Re: Need new non skid deck

I used the peanut can with holes punched in the bottom and it worked great. Since I did some test panels (before the boat) it was very easy to sprinkle an even amount on the decks. This was the...

Re: Need new non skid deck

Here is the way I did my decks.

- Sand with 180, wipe with prep-sol and applied AwlGrip 545 to everything.
- Sanded the entire deck and bulkhead area with 320 and applied AwlGrip Insignia white...

Re: Need new non skid deck

Tape was pulled up before full cure of the paint, otherwise it will entrap the tape and cause it to tear. The base is Awlgrip 545 with a layer of color, followed with "salt shaking" the Griptex,...

Re: Need new non skid deck

I've heard there was some issues with the Durabak, but those have since been solved. Bobby's boat came out really nice and I ordered some Durabak to sample it, but it did not have the finish I was...

Re: Enclosure addition

Very nice. I'm in the process of making some covers (engine, console guages and leaning post) when I'm done with those I will make some curtains, but you idea is great for the colder climates.

Re: Painting Outboard Cowlings

With the cost of decals and they being vinyl I have alsways been reluctant to spray a product over them that has an agressive "solvent" nature to it. It may be fine, but then again, you may be...
