I have them on my boat and i used a sink drain...
I have them on my boat and i used a sink drain wrench. its adjustable and worked fine for me although I'm sure the socket is easier. I picked one up at harbor freight for a few dollars.

I thought i would update the post and let you know i went with a zero hour rebuilt yanmar 4 lha 230hp diesel and all new gear. The performance is very good. My cruise number is up from 20-22knots...
