Forward it measures roughly 38 inches wide. Aft is roughly 48 inches wide. Length is about 53 inches.

You can also use ABS plastic for your helm area. There is a company called Decorative Plastics that sells it and it comes in burl, carbon fiber, plain etc. I think it was about $48 for a sheet.
