Re: POWER ON A 23 FOOTER
Fellow Ship
Seafari is right on the money. A 200 will push a 23' about 40, a 225 about 45, and a 250 about 47 give or take. I also agree w/ Steve, it is a very rare day when I can open her up. I usually cruise 25-30. However every now and again my wild side comes out and its balls to the wall. I make some very long trips (70 miles on short days, 120 on long days) in a 17' Carolina Skiff for work and usually get beat to death. When I get in my Seacraft, I feel like I can take on anything and feel the need for speed. As far as motors go, I have a Rude 225 ficht and absolutely looooove it. It has plenty of power and is good on gas. Not to rock the boat but IMHO 4 strokes just aren't worth the money. You would have to do a whole lot of riding to just break even for the extra $ of the motor. Stick w/ any of the direct fuel injection motors and you will see as good if not better fuel economy for less $. But to each his own.
