I've been running a 140 Suzuki four stroke on my 18 for over six months, and it is really sweet. A little over 400 pounds, just under 45mph wot in flat water, absolutely a miser on fuel, and quiet as a church mouse. Same engine is now sold re-stickered as an Evinrude, so parts and service network is greatly improved.

The nice thing about having the extra juice is that when you want it you have it. See if you can hitch a ride on a boat with one and check it out.
