Don,
When repowering our SC earlier this year, my father decided to put a jack plate on so that the new engine could fully tilt out of the water. You may know the story already, so I won't bore you with the details. Anyways, it works great and allows the boat to plane at a lower speed. He went with the RM Industries Rite-Hite manual jack plate with the 6" setback, but it only has 4" of vertical travel so that may not be enough for you. We found after using the boat a few times, some extra stress was placed on the transom due to the new leverage point. We cured that problem by bolting a piece of 1/2" aircraft aluminum across the inside of the splashwell. If you have a new transom, you probably won't run into this problem.
