Default Re: HA SCOTT ABOUT YOUR TRANSOM

Hmmmmm

No I haven’t ever thought of trying that ..... I'm still trying to convince myself that the brackets the way to go....and unfortunately there aren’t that many around to get a ride on!!!! If fact I know of none in my area.....the last one I saw restored (IT WAS AWESOME !!!) ended up in Maryland somewhere but that guy was approaching $ 40,000 in the boat and didn’t even have a new motor yet

Doing an integral bracket would scare me ....at least with the pre-fabbed ones you know what to expect , in some cases, of the boats performance when its all done.....plus I would think the time to build something like that would be astronomical.

I'm not even sure I want to attempt the transom rebuild, as the restore would be from the outside. Seems there will/would be alot of work needed to assure that the transom is "true" so at some point it could accept a bracket.....

I don’t mind doing the glass work (hatches, decks etc…) but that’s major structure and would not even know where to begin and with my luck the motor/motors would fall off going out the Inlet…….And to have someone build it for me……we’ll from the prices I’ve seen for work that is much more straight forward such as the transom restore…..it would be cheaper to buy new…..with an integral bracket

That being said … I think Desperado said that he was working on an integral bracket of some sort...It would be interesting to see how that comes out.
