Billybob I'm doing the same thing now with my pick up. From the looks of the old one the holes on the pick up had screws in them to keep it facing forward and not turning around on you. These screws had nothing to do with the screws on the seacock they are separate. The flange on the seacock gives it support when you tighten it down helps to keep it from snapping off. On the inside I have a piece of plywood(6" x 6") epoxied on the inside of the hull that the thru hull runs through, once you bed and tighten the sea cock you install small screws(seacock flange) into the plywood and these keep the seacock from loosening. This is the set up I found before I took it apart and once I put a new piece of plywood in I'll seal it up. The only differance is I'll be using a regular thru hull with no pick up so I won't need the screws on the out side I'll just epoxy the holes from the old one in. Hope this helps.
