Here are some other considerations in my favor.

I am a marine mechanic by training, now an engineer, my cousin owns a local merc dealership here on Long Island. The optimax I undersand had many problems from 2000 on. This engine will be under warranty until July 2003. I may add an extended warranty if available.

Question:

Since I have small kids with a wife that lets me do less than nothing and I have been down the road of fixer uppers. Do I buy a new boat say SportCraft for example, make an offer on the 1987 boat or do nothing for now and wait until something comes along.

Your thoughts. Ultimately it is my decision.

PS what price would be fare for the 1987.
