Scott M. invited me to the my first Mass. Striped Bass Association meeting last night (John R was in attendance too)
Featured speaker was Capt. John Pirie (
www.olfc.com)....skipper of the local charter boat "ORCA" and pretty well known in the fishing community. I was on one of his charters a few years back and caught more bass in 5 hours than I have caught since then!
Anyway.. Capt Pirie gave a slide presentation on catching 70-150lb school Bluefin Tuna on 40lb spinning gear that blew us away.
Call me crazy....but this guy kinda reminds of a cross between "Hooper" and '"Quinn" from the movie Jaws. This guy knows his stuff and is very well spoken. He is former researcher at the Woods Hole Oceangraphic Institute (Hooper), but now teaches biology at a private school in Manchester. When he isn't throwing chalk at sleeping kids in the classroom...he can be found on Orca (Quinn), his custom 27' Boston Whaler Guardian, catching anything from bass, blues, shark and of course, tuna.
Sorry, but I am keeping his fishing secrets to myself!!
