Re: Cabo San Lucas
Jim,
The Maria works great on Spanish macks and false albacore, so I would think you'd do well in Cabo on similar species - sierra, jacks, etc. Like Mark said, replace the hooks immediately. I've had many lost albies to those hooks. The YoZuri L-Jack is another good one, as is the Sting Silver. You may want to give a teaser rig a try as well - 24-36" of fluoro with a fly tied to a dropper loop at the top. Tie your jig to the bottom. Double hookups are not uncommon on MV when the albies and Spanish are around.
I'd also bring a few of the Roberts Rangers in the colors John mentions. I've seen a couple TV shows where guys have caught roosterfish from the shore in Cabo on these lures. Make sure you get the "Ranger" model (2 1/4 & 3 oz). The "Bounder" is also 2 1/4 oz but is smaller in size, and it doesn't have the action of the Ranger. You could also try some of the Roberts "Peppys" - similar to the Ranger but only 3/4 oz. Their Hammer metal would be a good choice also. Good luck.
