Re: Monster Tarpon (Last Sat )
Don't know what happened with the pics, maybe somebody can help with posting pics? Maybe something to do with imagestation. Should I try to repost them or will they come back up?
Anyway, the story goes like this the fish was caught in Flamingo (that's in the Florida Everglades National Park for those unfamiliar) on a 4/0 senator with 40# line, a 80# flourocarbon leader and a nice ladyfish. I usually don't fish that heavy, but it seemed to be perfect for the situation, big bait with big Tarpon jumped earlier. I fought the fish for approx. two and a half hours with huge runs, ariel displays, head shakes, runs directly at the boat and it was landed with tendor love and care (4 anglers, well 3 and what was left of me ), had a Kodak moment, revived it and watched it swim off in to the darkness live and well. The fish measured over 6.5' long with an approx. 42" girth. Don't know how to approximate the weight from that, but had to be over 150#. I've caught 100# class, but this one was just mammoth.
Other fish on the trip included cobia, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, jewfish. Hell of a trip.
