John R- you must have heard that a 12 year old kid grabbed a 56 pounder at Providence point ( northern tip of Prudence I.) last month. Now, down our way, all the big ones are off the Block.
I live almost directly across from Providence Point... The thing that makes the Bay a little different than Boston harbor is how close it is to the staging areas of the bass, like Montauk, Block, Cuttyhunk.. So the odds go up (a guy I know caught a 63#er from shore last year in Newport). In Mass, Cohassett south has great exposure/ awesome structure/ deep water / better bait and from there to Plymouth you have the East end of the Ditch was is a big conduit for these fish. Also, when CC Bay warms up and the tuna come in, they can push the bass & blues inshore into those areas. Cape Anne has the cooler waters, great structure, and is more or less ocean front again. Great bait too ..

I know a few Boston sharpies that catch a lot of 30s, some 40s, and the odd 50 but if they lived off Buzzards Bay or BLock, they'd do even better....

Me, I'm still waiting for my 40 from shore
