Otto's refering to the fact that a trailer's "capacity" includes the weight of the trailer. Said differently, the load capacity of the trailer is the rated capacity less the weight of the trailer itself. So, if the boat with gear is 5500, add the 1000# trailer weight and he needs the 7000# capacity trailer.
