Hey Chris-

The deck cap of your boat should either be pop-riveted or screwed to the hull. After you take off the rubrail, you should see the rivets/screws. As Scott mentioned, it is not a bad idea to 5200 the gap between the hull and liner before
you replace the rubrail. The 5200 will seal out any water and will also strengthen the shoebox style joint between the cap and hull.

PS- wear rubber dishwashing gloved while applying the 5200 (disposables don't work all that well)and have plenty of cotton rags available (paper towels fall apart). 5200 is very messy!
