Re: 23 Seafari flips, all safe
Couple things maybe to consider. Some freinds of mine lost a very good friend 25+ years ago in a SC 23' CC off Block Island. If I remember correctly, they were fishing tight to the island when a rouge wave came over the transom and flipped the boat. That is how the story was related to me several years ago. One or two of the three people, all accomplished anglers and boaters, died.
I'm going thru and doing work on my transom, adding some knees, drilling out crappy screws and bolts and thru hulls, putting in new wood or dowels and reglassing (barely on schedule for Newport). Today i removed the thru hull for the baitwell that comes up thru the bottom of the hull, 1/2 inch of open bilge, then the putty below the baitwell and then the baitwell itself. Several places for this thru-hull to bite into. Well, it did not take much effort with a looe fitting pipe wrench to get thing unglued at all. And the worst thing is that where it is in an unviewable area under that baitwell, it is difficult to examine that area closely, let alone under way.
So, everyone please tripple check your thru hulls, especially if they are more, uhh, mature like the ones in my 79....
