Re: Enclosed transom/transom mount
Mike, The reason so many boatbuilders have gone to with a bracket is twofold. More room in the transom and a better ride. I have twin 115 4'strokes on a bracket (23ft) and love the boat even more. It rides like a bigger boat, when in the rough stuff the azz end stays in the water better, my wife likes the extra space to have deck chairs and I can now have a 40 gallon removable bait well and still have room to move about. As for mounting the engines higher, yes my cavitation plates are at least 2-4 inches above the hull bottom. I don't get any prop blow out and my speed probably is 1-2kts higher overall.
Anyone with a 23' that has done a bracket job would never go back to mounting the motors on the transom. I belive cost is the real factor. Plan on anywere from $3500 on up to the sky for a well done job.
