I think you are correct. When I removed all the teak last year to strip the seven coats of varnish the prior owner applied, it looked like the holes from the original coamings were still there. Rumor has it the original owner was a guy with money to burn, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he had it custom done at some point. Lucky me.

The solar panel is indeed to provide a trickle charge to keep my batteries topped up. It seems to be working fine thus far, but I am usually not away from it for more than a couple of weeks at a time. The boat stays in the water at it’s mooring all year long except for my annual haul out to clean and paint the bottom and do some routine maintenance. Unless of course a Hurricane is coming and then it will get pulled and placed on land to ride it out.
