It might just be the engines ad fellowship metioned...let me explain
I too have 1996 v6 Evinrudes, mine are 225's.
They have to be the most reliable engines but they leak so much "blow by" out the exaust hub it is troubling.
I have had this "issue" checked by my mechanic and he assures me not to worry.
There are a few differnces between your issue and what I am discussing.
1-I have never measured exactly how much oil is spewed out after running them but it is noticible enough to cause me to adress the situation.
2- both my motors do it
Also a little trick (unrelated to your issue but useful) I learned, and you may already know, is the 1996 Evinrudes have an advanced start feature.
when cold starting the engine, (first time)
Hold the key in the choke position for about 8-10 seconds. You will hear a click
after this click start the engine.
it should fire right up.
I was amazed how well it works.
