That's an interesting point you make... I did not know that. That, however, goes to the structural rigidity of the bracket. My concern would be over the stresses on the transom while 800 lbs of motor is bouncing down the road 2 1/2 feet behind the transom.

Since I don't hear about transoms being torn off by brackets, it's must not be an issue.

Anyone ever do a bracket on an unmodified transom?
