Default Re: Transom bracket question?

In was in Key west recently and saw an older 23 with a bracket and twin 200 2 strokes. I spent about 20 minutes talking to the owner. No preparations were made to strengthen the transom prior to installing the bracket and motors. There were some significant stress cracks on both sides of the transom and the fella was in for some work to fix it.

If it were me I would re-do the entire transom or at least add some knees for support. Get a twin Seamark fiberglass bracket and a 30 inch Suzuki 250. You will get maximum flotation with the twin bracket and it comes with a transom closing system. Your boat should stay self bailing with that kind of set up.
