I think a couple people have attempted to powder coat or paint the windshield frames so hopefully one of them will speak up. My frame had been painted black before I bought it and the center window had been welded shut or replaced with one that didn't open. It looked like they'd done a decent job of painting it but it was still starting to bubble and flake in spots and the gaskets they had used to when replacing the glass turn everything that touches them black and create black streaks from water running off. Considering the amount of work and cost to rehab them again, I decided to replace with a new one from American Marine, the OEM provider. The quote from them was in the $3k range I think, give or take $500. I haven't done it yet though. There are a lot of options regarding the glass you get and the vents which will affect the price.
