Dang, those are some burly chunks of teak. Impressively over-built. I like it. Best domestics wood be Black Locust and White Oak (stay away from Red Oak). Pretty economical, too. If you're in FL you might find some Bald Cypress that wood do the trick. Lauan or Philipine Mahogany is also fine - the redder, the better. Cheap, too. African Mahoganies like Khaya, Utile and Makore or even Sapele wood work. Spanish Cedar is fine, and of course Honduran Mahogany and Teak are always welcome on a skiff but they are pricey.

All of these woods have good anti-decay, and strength properties and hold fasteners well.

With the exception of the last 2, most of the species will range from $3 to $7/ board foot, but don't expect to find them at lowes or home depot.
