I have a 76 23 footer with the motor on the transom. When I re did my boat I removed the old live well that was mounted on the transom. Then I build a 38 gal oval type one just behind my seat below deck like you see on the new 23 Seacrafts. I use a scoop to pick up water with a cut off valve and 500 gal. pump to put water into the tank. I have a over flow hose mounted approx 4-5” from the top of the tank which is the bottom of my deck to drain over flow water out. I also have another hose and cut off valve to drain water out of the tank at the end of the day. The scoop is located in my bilge area and the two drains are going through my transom very close to my bilge drain plug hole. It works well for me and on small boats if you can put some things under the deck all the better. I really don’t know if this would work on the 20’ because it seems that most guys that re do a 20 raise the floors because of the weight of the newer motors causing water to come into the boats through the scuppers. On my 23’ “if” I ever converted it to a 2 engine boat (adding that additional weight) I would probably have to change my live well into a fish box instead. Then close off the transom put in a flotation bracket make a new live well above deck putting the tank against the transom or going with those new live well seats.
