I can only really speak for the '02 and more recent. The older ones may be a bit different but, the OX66 Yamahas are one of their most reliable engines. They like gas/oil. The most common maintenance items are: O2 sensor (cleaning usually), low pressure fuel pumps (replace at ~$40 ea.), HP fuel pump screen. I believe 2002 was the first year the digital gauges had the built-in hour meter. About every 100-200 hrs. a good de-carb helps. The oil pump adjustment needs to be checked. They will load up/foul plugs if oil is too heavy especially with a lot of slow trolling/idling. I'm on my second, and have never had any major problems when the above are maintained. Good luck!!
