So far I am going the opposite route, I have used plywood for the transom, and coosa s/s for the deck. However for the resin it is all epoxy.

The main thing is to set your self a budget. If you are planning to keep the boat for very long time maybe the extra expense is worth it. If not most of the wood in my boat made it 40 years.
