I don't exactly know the config of your 18's splashwell but prior to my transom enclose, I used 1 3/4" teak glued & joined with biscuits for my rocket launcher. It lasted many years. Because of the larger splaswell as a base I could stand on it without issues. I also had the engine tilt cutout.

IMO, I would stay clear of starbord type of materials used to span a large area because of weight and warping. Even the small starboard access door shown in the picture started to bend over time
