I believe it can be used with the hatch on. I have not used it on my Sceptre yet. It can also be used as a boarding ladder over the side of the boat so there are the same female mounts that mount on the side under the coaming pads. I will try to locate the female brackets and take pics of them with the brackets located on the ladder. The other ladder is a breakaway ladder that hangs over the side of the boat.
