Eddie, I like mounting them near the chine because it provides max rolling moment with minimum tab deflection. Min deflection = Min drag and fuel burn!
I control running angle mainly with engine trim and use the tabs for roll control, unless it's really rough and/or am heavily loaded and want to plane at 11-12 mph, where the tabs also help low speed low speed planing. Denny
