I decided to recore my 73' from the outside using the putty method.
After putting in the wood core I layed up 2 layers of 1708 at the same time. I did not wet them out enough and now think I may have a disaster on my hands.
As I began removing the half-cured glass, the 4" lip of orginal glass came right off.
Underneath is a nice, well cured section of the putty.
So, when clean everything up and put a fresh layer of biax over the whole transom, do I need to tie it into just the putty? Or will I have to grind off more of the gelcoat on the hull and tie it in further away from the transom?
Also, I found that there appeared to be a very thin layer of rotten wood directly on top of the hull
Has anyone seen rot here before?
Thanks.
