Default Re: Mercruiser MPI ?

I have the Smartcraft Speedo and Tach with the link guages.....there's a single CAN connector on the engine and cable up to the helm that connects to a hub that the speedo and tach also connect to.....the volt, oil pressure and temp gauges all daisy chain off the tach or speedo (can't recall which at the moment). I also have a separate system monitor that has all the functions of the tach that I can also connect to the hub and use as a multifunction gauge. I started out with just the monitor and the info was so good I fianlly swung for all the guages. Each guage (speedo, tach and monitor) keeps their own stats about fuel usage....so if you're careful about when you reset the guages, you can reset one on fill up and reset the other after each trip and that way you keep up with total used and total used per trip. The fuel use numbers are amazingly accurate, as are all the engine stat numbers you get. If you hook it up to a NMEA 0183 GPS and use a smartcraft fuel sending unit you can get range info and fuel efficiency numbers as well. You have to get an add on pitot tube kit to get water speed with the speedo...basically a small sensor that connects to the engine harness and pitot tube from the outdrive. The horizon package requires a seacock for enough cooling water, bt the FWC is pretty efficient as my engine temp is 159 degrees most of the time....rnning on a hose it will go to 161. It's very efficient as I get around 2.7mpg at cruise on a 4600lb dry weight hull. In 6 tripes offshore where it's a 60 mile one way run to the ledge, it's used 80-70-80 gals with 7-9 hours or trolling.
