Re: Have you seen this?
That was spooky Brandon, brought back some nightmares. A few years back I had a 23' IMP Inca, a heavy, solid and capable offshore boat. We were headed back toward Pt Loma from a day of fishing outside the Coronado Islands. We'd seen a large wave in the distance for some time and we saw a submarine running at the surface chugging about 20 knots. Suddenly we were faced with its wake - a long breaking tube easily 10-12' overhead. You could have surfed this wake for hours. Perfectly formed, huge, but mellow rolling tube.
I noticed it and yelled at my partner to square it up. He managed to get pretty square, we went vertical, myself and another friend were thrown against the transom or motor cover and the boat came down hard on the back side of the wave. Gas was seeping out of the carb and we were dead in the water flooded. After sitting a good while letting the fumes dissipate we fired up and headed home. Everybody says they would have quartered the wave, I still believe if we would of taken it any other way the boat would have flipped and we'd be history. Kind of like the gymnast in the pointy end of that cc... Good thing that baby fired up and got turned to quarter or hey would have been swamped by that last wave. Maybe I'll ante up for a fuel injected motor now...
