Even if you get 2X the fuel mileage with the diesel, the cost savings at the end of the useful life of the gas engine brings the cost of the diesel down to $25K.

My question is how many of us have put on 2,000 hours on a boat, re-powered and kept the boat?

IMO unless you are commercial or are planning on keeping the boat for ever, diesel still costs to much.
