Default Re: CSC Bahamas Gathering July 2009

Sandy, I used to burn about 8 gph with my old 115 V-4 cruising at 20 kts/4500 rpm with a Bahama type load. Averaged about 2.8 mpg over about 2000 miles of Bahamas cruising. I was always loaded pretty heavy, so I wouldn't think you'd burn much more than that because your boat is a lot lighter and you don't have to wind that bigger engine up so much. I used to burn about 35 gal to Walkers, which is about 100 nm. Usually took me about 60-65 gallons to Green Turtle, and I tried to carry about 80 just in case Walkers was out, which they were one time. West End is only about 60nm, so I'd figure about 20-25 gal for that run, each way. You always want some reserve however, in case it gets really rough and you have to drop down to min planing speed or if you have to tow somebody.
