I used a 6" setback jackplate on an old Thunderbird Formula (20 transom with 25" shaft outboard) I used to own. I had to drill a large hole in transom (obviously above water line) and in an angle and in line with the tilt tube. then ran the cable through this hole and covered hole with a large clamshell vent. I was unable to maneuver the steering cable far enough out and back to fit into tilt tube at the proper angle due to small splashwell and splashwell opening. Worked good and I have seen other people do this even with various brackets, but seems like it would be a bigger hinderance on platform brackets (steering cable getting in the way etc). But again with jackplate..I had no problem....jackplate was fixed not hydraulic or manual lift. -Fred
