You want it facing forward. On my 20 I have it facing backwards and it works great when at a stand still but when traveling water will drain out of the bait tank. So I have to close the seacock when traveling in that boat. I had the opposite problem on my 23. On that boat I had it facing forward and when underway it would force water into the bait tank and flood onto the deck. I would usually close the seacock to prevent that from happening when underway. One could adjust the seacock so it is only half open to slow the water flow I guess. There are other types that I've see guys use.... one in particular that is flat but has little cheese grader scoops facing forward that catch the water and help the flow into the bait tank.
