Those numbers for the I/O sound about right; you might check them vs. the Boating magazine article in the Literature section. It's a pretty efficient rig despite the ancient technology engine. The modern 4 stroke outboards aren't much better! 2 different I/O Seafari's have made the run with me to Green Turtle Cay in the Abaco's, via Walkers Cay as I remember. They both burned about 45 gallons vs. about 65 gallons for my old 115 2-stroke. Distance was about 160 nm. That works out to about 4 statute mpg for the I/O vs. about 2.8 for mine. This was with a heavy load with all the gear you'd need for a 2 wk trip, running in the 2' square waves typical of the little Bahama bank, cruising at about 20 kts, which is probably a little faster than optimum for that rig.
