a high speed buffer and 3m diamond cut polishing compound(black bottle) usually does the trick. we used it quite a bit at the marina i used to work at to buff out where decals where removed, you might end up doing the entire boat to make the shine match. fairly low speed(1000-1500rpm) and take your time but keep it moving usually does the trick.
