Default Re: 1970 20' deck job, to foam or not?

replacing the deck on my 1970 20 cc, had to dig some foam out to repair the stringers(about a 6" wide channel on inboard stringers) was wondering if it is really worth it to replace the foam or just leave it. Does it have any structural purpose?
The main purpose of the foam is to give the glass mat shape. All the strength is in the mat. If the mat around the foam is separating from the hull re-glass that and you should be good to go.
