Hey Cappy,
Were you able to pinpoint that fuel problem? I must have missed that post.
Never would have thought the weight was so high in the 18...

Hey guys....
Yea I pinpointed the problem all right....There was a kink in the main service line where it bent back to the fill neck.I had a stinless U bent to acomidate that turn .I also found that they used about 12 feet of fuel line,I used 10' only when I refit using the stainless bent U.also the vent line was way too long and it must have had a big droop to it in the hull because it was ful of fuel and could not vent the tank.....thats why gas came out right away upon filling up originaly.I made a loop with the new vent line above..on top of the tank and made sure that I used just enough hose to get to the vent. This way the gas that makes it into the vent line will go back into the tank.here's the pics of what it looked like when I got things apart.prety nasty.I dont wish that replacement job on anyone. The main service line was date stamped 1979 and really was hard and crusty.if you are gonna do it to your boat....be realy carefull clipping the metal coil found in the hose when you get to the point of removing it from around the neck of the tank..I saw a spark jump off my sidecutters and its scary.I jambed a niquil cup in the fill neck to keep the explosive danger to a minimal.

As you'll see in the pictures,I had to put a pie plate at the point where I had to cut the original hose to get it out of the hull. Also I couldn't reach the back of the orig. vent so I put a new one.I worked from the Bow where I had to pull out the docking light I just recently put new bulbs in and resealed last month (By the way...I have a set of round Morse Docking lights for sale if anyone want them cheap)but at least I had a way to get to the fill spout to replace it and the ground line I also replaced.here's some more pics of the new line and vent.

I am totaly finished now and am glad I got to clean out that area of the boat and reseal the hatch and console etc.
.....in the pics you'll see a brass U turn,It was too big and heavy to go on top ofthe tank and it was never used.
have a good one,steve
