Default Re: ocracoke, guides, fishing, food

I think you'll have a wonderful time. I've spent alot of time in Ocracoke, just not lately. There are a few charter boats in O. I would recommend a guy named Ronnie O'Neal on the Miss Kathleen. Very nice fellow and he does offshore, nearshore and inshore. Surf fishing is usually pretty good. There are a couple of public beach access areas and, unless things have changed this year, areas where you can drive on the beach. Don't forget to let your tires down to about 20 PSI! If you head north, you cross Hatteras Inlet via ferry and arrive in Hatteras Village. Not much bigger than Ocracoke, but nice eye candy, (boats), in the marinas. A couple of hours further north and you have Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. Lots to do there, but, Labor Day weekend traffic will test your patience from Ocracoke to Kitty Hawk. (Probably remind you alot of home). You might consider taking the Cedar Island-Ocracoke Ferry. It'll be a welcome rest after all that driving. The ferry will save you a ton of driving time and traffic. Here's a link to mapquest showing the ferry route. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Oc...4&geocode=CITY Not to mention, when the ferry ride is over, your there! Here's a link to the ferry site. http://www.ncdot.gov/ferry/ You will need reservations. If you want to site see and drive all the way around, you will still ride a ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke. Hope this helps.
