The only way to make a part like that out of raw wood work is to seal the wood first. Preferably with dura tec. If not that any good paint. Then the surface will be smooth. Now you can wax and then use PVA. The part will then pop right out.
Sometimes trying to save a buck...will cost you several more bucks...
