You might want to check the boards, ebay, and craigslist. With the boat market in meltdown, there are some brackets to be founnd. If you could find one that would fit correctly for 3-400 bucks, I doubt you could build one for that, and it would be "engineered" correctly.

I thought about building my own, and stummbled across an armstrong for 300 bucks. If your into wanting to build the whole thing yourself, that's a different issue.
