Carl, you need to find out what the max rated rpm is for that motor, and then select a prop that will give you close to that rpm at WOT while running with a full tank of gas and the heaviest load you typically run. I'm sure 5000 rpm is too low for that motor, so your prop has too much pitch or diameter. Outboards like to rev and the boat will generally plane quicker and plane at lower speed if you're not overpropped, as I suspect you are. I'm not a Merc guy, but I'd guess it should wind up to at least 5500-5800. Fr. Frank and others will know for sure. Denny
