When it comes to towing, STOPPING is most important if you're going any distance, and many states require trailer brakes once you get over 3000 lbs gross, so I think you'd want good brakes on the trailer with a 23. Traction at the ramp is next most critical issue. I think tow ratings on most 1/2 ton pickups are high enough to handle a 23, although a mid-size 4WD might also work; some Dakota's can handle 6500 lbs with the right rear axle ratio. Check out
