Press the "Quote" button in the upper right-hand corner of the post you are replying to and highlight what you want quoted. Type your message outside of the quote tags.
If you're trying to cut and paste a quote from another thread, copy it and then press the Quote button in the post you're responding to. Then paste it between the tags.
