So I started removing the core on the gunnels and found that they are paper thin and I blew thru them just trying to remove the old balsa core. Wondering what would be the best corse of action repair or repair and make a mold From the old gunnel and make a new cap all the way around? and body already have a mold?
Is there any way you can recore with plywood? The cap itself looks pretty tricked to mold, so I am planning to try to beef up my busted one. In between backing plates and enough layers of mat, I think a 130 on a bent butt should be ok.
ya thats what I'm going to do just need to lay down some fresh mat first to stiffen the hole thing up then re core then beef up the rod holders with some cross bracing and glassing it in . I've had 130's blow gunnels apart with the fish spiraling vertical with the boat i don't want to lose a big fish cause of chitty glassing
