Re: specs on a yamaha 130 1989 ?
What is model specifically is your prop? There are thousands of configurations. Aside from too much pitch, you may have too much cup, or rake or whatever. Maybe the prop you have was designed for a bass boat. Find a Yamaha semi-cleaver with less pitch like a 13-1/2 x 17 M or K or even a 15 pitch. If a Merc black max fits a yamaha 130 I would try it... 13-1/2 x 17. I run a 13-3/4 x 15 and it is up on plane virtually instantaneously with a 115 Merc and no trim tabs. That and the semi cleaver are designed to get the stern up. A 4 blade will also get you on plane quicker but you'll probably need to go to a 15p. The pointy end of the SeaCraft will do its job
People often equate more pitch with more speed but that is not necessarily a constant especially in the mid power range or with these hulls.
Check with a local prop shop and see if they'll loan you a lightly used one oof each for a day. Test it with a fairly heavy load to see where you are. Good luck.
