But compared to wax, how did it hold up? The Poly Glo instructions say it should be reapplied about once a year. If you lay on a few extra coats it will last two years.

As jerry1 said, the key is the prep. If you have heavy oxidation, you can wet sand it with 800 grit and and then apply the product. If you don't get through the oxidation before you apply, you'll just have shiny oxidized gelcoat.
